Lymphedema

Lymphedema is swelling in the arms or legs as a result of removal of the lymph nodes. Lymphedema often occurs after surgery or treatment for cancer. Although there is no cure for lymphedema, it can be managed through exercise, lymphatic massage, wrapping the arm or leg, pneumatic compression, compression garments or Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT). A referral to an OT or PT certified in Lymphedema Therapy is typically provided by your oncologist or primary care physician.
